Game Art for the new Bond title IO Interactive

The release of the hotly anticipated James Bond video game, titled 007 First Light, has been pushed back to 27 May 2026.

Initially scheduled for a 27 March release, the title will now debut approximately 60 days past its initial date.

A Long-Awaited Comeback for 007

This project marks the maiden video game starring the legendary British spy following 2012's 007 Legends, ending a extended hiatus for the character in the gaming world.

"Our project is fully playable from start to finish," explained developer IO Interactive. "However, we are taking this extra time to apply final touches and ensure it satisfies the high expectations of our players."

Production Details and Story Elements

The game is being developed in association with Delphi Interactive, a studio also behind another major title.

Patrick Gibson, known for Dexter: Original Sin, will portray a 26-year-old James Bond in what is described as a new look at the early days.

The narrative will follow Bond as he joins into MI6 and earns his coveted 00 status, delivering a standalone story independent of the films or books.

Notable Cast and Mechanics Reveals

Adding to the celebrity appeal, artist Lenny Kravitz will perform as the game's main villain.

Early teaser footage have highlighted certain resemblances with IO Interactive's successful Hitman franchise, while also highlighting the signature gadgets and cinematic set pieces inherent to Bond.

However, a portion of the reaction on these trailers voiced apprehensions over how the game looked, citing stuttering and prominent motion blur.

A Major Project

IO Interactive has labeled 007 First Light its "biggest project to date."

"Our team is sure this sets 007 First Light up for enduring popularity," the studio added. "Thank you for the patience and continued support we've received."
