Former National Football League Star Antonio Brown Files Not Guilty Response in Attempted Murder Trial
Ex- NFL star Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to address an murder attempt charge stemming from a gunfire that happened in May, with his counsel submitting a not guilty plea on his behalf.
Jail records in Essex County, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was discharged on Tuesday morning for his relocation to Florida. Brown, one of the most popular figures in the National Football League, had waived extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was held after being apprehended in the city of Dubai.
Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an communication that he has previously filed a documented innocent declaration to the attempted murder charge. Brown could be in a Miami court as early as Wednesday morning for a bond session, Eiglarsh added.
Based on his apprehension order, Brown is accused of grabbing a firearm from a protection staffer after a star match bout in May and firing two shots at a man he had confronted with earlier. The alleged victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed authorities that one of the bullets grazed his nape.
Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was only protecting himself from Nantambu.
“The measures he was forced to take were exclusively in self-defense against the claimed person’s violent conduct. Brown was attacked that night and behaved within his rightful right to defend himself,” Eiglarsh commented.
Brown was not immediately detained because originally authorities did not identify Nantambu as a target. It not until afterward in May that Nantambu delivered a full statement about the situation to officers and named Brown as the shooter, the affidavit indicates.
Based on his online posts, Brown had been staying in Dubai for a number of weeks. In a post after the altercation, Brown stated he was defending himself because he was “assaulted by numerous people who attempted to take my possessions and cause physical injury to me.”
A category two attempted murder allegation in Florida carries a maximum 15-year jail term and up to a $10,000 fine in the instance of a guilty verdict.
Brown has encountered several legal problems over the period. He previously had been accused of physical attack of a vehicle employee, various family violence accusations, inability to pay parental support and other occurrences.
During a 2021 contest with the Buccaneers against the New York Jets, Brown stripped off his jersey, protective gear and gloves and ran off the stadium, leading to his dismissal by the Buccaneers and effectively halting his professional tenure.
Brown, who spent 12 years in the National Football League, was an elite receiver who spent the bulk of his time with the Steelers. During his time, Brown had nine hundred twenty-eight receptions for above 12,291 distance, the twenty-eighth greatest of history. He was a seven-time Pro Bowl choice.
