The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Teaser Debuts, Unveiling Fresh Faces Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices
The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination released the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. The reveal happened in a special Nintendo Direct that highlighted the upcoming animated film.
The sequel to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will send Mario to the outer limits of the universe. There, he will encounter a new princess and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
A Space-Faring Quest Drawing from Classic Games
Similar to the Wii-era games that provide its foundation, Mario will venture away from the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. During his grand adventure, he will reunite with some well-known personalities, such as the Luma, a popular character from the first movie.
However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who apparently utilizes powers related to metal. Notably, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also features references to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
All-Star Vocal Ensemble Returns and Expands
The feature will feature once again of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.
A Big Year for Mario
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is set to release around the time of the 40-year celebration of the original Super Mario Bros. game. In addition to the movie, 2026 promises to be a major period for Mario and his allies.
Nintendo has three new games officially announced for 2026, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Premiere Date Announced
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
